Down Memory Lane
The following recollection comes from Larry Liss, AGLOA Executive Director, who was at the very first national academic games tournament.
Imagine playing Equations and LinguiSHTIK with no written rules!
- At the first three National Tournaments (1966, 1967, and 1968), Equations was played just that way – no rules were written, except those that came in the game book. Finally, in the summer of 1968, Official Tournament Rules were written by a committee meeting in Turtle Creek PA for Equations, Propaganda, On-Sets, and Mr. President. Those rules made their debut in local leagues during 1968-69 and governed play at the 1969 National Tournament.
- During the first year of LinguiSHTIK play, only the rules in the game book were available. After that year, written Official Tournament Rules became a must. Just look at the rules now and try to imagine!
