Jefferson Parish Public School System's Secondary Academic Games League

A. Purpose of the League
The Jefferson Parish Public School System's Secondary Academic Games League provides academic competition for students in middle, junior and senior high schools. Learning and competing in these games affords students excellent enrichment opportunities in the skills of communication, deductive reasoning, critical and creative thinking, problem solving and decision making using the disciplines of math and English. Participants are motivated to improve their skills in mathematics and language arts and receive recognition for their achievements.

B. History of the League
The JPPSS Secondary Academic Games League made a "comeback" in 1994-95, after a 3 year leave during which all extra-curricula activities were suspended. Local tournaments for On-Sets, Equations, LinguiSHTIK, and Propaganda were held throughout the school year. Some 150 students from 16 middle, junior, and senior high schools participated in the events. That year 16 middle, junior, and senior high school students attended the national tournament held in Wheeling, West Virginia.

C. Composition of the League
The JPPSS Secondary Academic Games League includes most of the Parish's middle, junior, and senior high schools. Students play against all contestants entered for their grade level of competition.
