Judges Corner for December 2007

Dealing with an Insolent Player

Sometimes in the heat of the action, a player may not receive a judge's ruling well or may be agitated by an opponent's behavior or the way play has unfolded. As a judge, you should try, first of all, to calm the player so that play can proceed. If necessary, call the player's coach/moderator to the table to deal with the student. If the player will not stop the disruptive behavior, he or she must be removed from the competition.
