Kiran Srinivas
Ann Arbor, MI
"Quite simply, he was marvelous when it came to crunch time. After
his ninth grade year he never lost an individual or team playoff. His Jr
year, he won EQ, Ling., and OS. His Sr year, he won EQ
and Ling. His Sr year, he was on a team that won sweeps. His coach,
Ian
Buchanan wanted to nominate him and two of his teammates, Paul
Nelson and Manish Garg, for the outstanding Sr award. On the bus
ride down to nationals, Paul and Manish came to Ian and told him
that they wanted to nominate Kiran for the award. When he told them
that he had planned to nominate all three of them, they objected,
saying that Kiran deserved to win the award more and that they wouldn't
feel right if he didn't win. The three of them sat down and wrote
the nomination letter that would eventually win him the award. He
was a dominating player who liked to win with style."
